BSOD issue

Thread Starter
Usually shows up as IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. It also states that its caused by ntoskrnl.exe, but I looked up that and it was nvidia drivers, and I reinstalled the drivers completely quite a few times. It made me think it was my memory, so I ran a memory test for a few hours, and nothing was wrong with it. So my best guess is a driver problem, but I have no idea how to check for it, so that's why I'm here.

PC Specs:
OS- Win7 64bit, original install, full retail version
The graphics card is about a year or two old, the processor, motherboard, ram, and power supply have just been upgraded.

CPU - i7 3770k, stock
GPU - Nvidia GTX 560 (non-ti)
Motherboard - ASUS p8z77 v-lx
PSU OCZ ZT750W

Some people are having issues with the 320.18 drivers... That BSOD and one that said something about an attempt to write to read only memory where 2 errors I have been dealing with while trying to get my drivers figured out.

Historically the BSOD you are having is caused by a defective GPU (I believe it is usually corrupt memory).

However being that I have seen posts about this BSOD multiple times in the last month and only occasionally in the last 2 years prior I am going to guess it is a problem with the 320.18 drivers.

There are claims that the 320.18 drivers have damaged cards... because all my symptoms where nearly identical to those of the people who said they had cards that where damaged and it seems that my card is now fine I will take a guess that either nobody or very few people actually have damaged cards because of the driver.

Either way

Start by installing the 320.49 drivers... I don't think they are listed on NVidia's website yet but NVidia is hosting the files so it isn't like they are leaked like the most previous beta driver.

I would recommend you select clean install but clean install isn't really 100% clean SO

If you still have issues after installing the 320.49 drivers then I recommend you follow the guides to completely wiping your entire system of all NVidia related registry and driver entries.

I wouldn't really recommend following one of those guides as being the very first thing you do. As it isn't easy the software you need is BS and trying very hard to get you to buy it and it takes 2 different applications one worse than the other at trying to get you to buy it.

So try a simple update first. Also I would recommend you not install the NVidia GeForce experience software... as although it is probably not true people have pointed fingers at that software and 20 other things too so take it all as a grain of salt.
