Is this the Pivos Aios you're talking about? Looks like a dedicated media server of the sorts...something of interest in the future. I'll look into it a bit further down the road.

Really? I guess I'll go mess around with it a bit more and see what my results are.

Or just setup PS3 media server for the PS3. I personally use plex and to stream throughout the house. Never had a problem with plex, it just works. ( You can download different skins for XBMC and Plex)
I use a combination of Plex, SubSonic, and Serviio. I use Plex when streaming to a PC or my Android devices, Serviio to stream to my DLNA boxes in the house, and SubSonic primarily for audio streaming but also WAN video when I am on a low bandwidth connection (SubSonic lets me lower the bitrate when I need, and not have to go through the config and change the overall settings).

I always have access to my media anywhere that I have a connection.

Ya thats the aios. It, and the pc's in my house just play off network shares (Windows smb). It CAN be set up as a server, but i just use it to play files off the network over gigabit connection, same with all the pc's in my house except the server/htpc. XBMC on every pc, including server. IMO, XBMC Is the best for playing/storing/organizing. PS3 has limitations implemented by Sony that made me say goodbye to it long ago, except for some local multiplayer games that see some use when friends are over.

Alright after some thorough testing and messing around, I've noticed a couple of things...

-Plex seems to be great to use for transcoding (I guess it's normal for a timeskip to refresh during a transcode)
-The LG BP620C I'm using in the living room doesn't seem to support Plex (have to use Serviio in this case)
-I'm assuming it's normal to use more than one media streamer to get the best of several worlds for a server

I'm going to have to do a serious breakdown on the usage of both Plex and Serviio since these may be my main streamers for now. Have to figure out why Serviio console isn't detecting my Blu-ray player device (even though the player detects/plays media on the server fine) while looking further into the settings of both media servers for proper use. Any additional comments and tips on the use of these servers are welcome. Thank you all for your contributions.

EDIT: Seems like I just had to restart Serviio to detect my the blu-ray player.

One more thing even though I could probably look it up on my own...what are the differences in the paid/registered versions of Serviio and Plex?

The paid version of Plex gives you early access to new releases and access to more sections in the forum. Plex is basically free to use for the final builds.

PS3 Media Server is great and works with basically any dlna/UPnP devices. Transcodes on the fly (i used to use it to stream DVD/BD ISO's to ps3). Currently tho i have been using AnyDVD HD and Handbrake to convert everything to .mp4 and Windows 8 media sharing itself to stream (mostly to my Vizio Co-Star). I still ISO all the disc's so i have the original copies but .mp4 seems to work on most devices easily and maintains decent av quality.
