In post #34 you said that the only reason anyone would use good headphones on console was to listen to listen to angry 12 year olds. In post #45 your argument was that consoles have never included audio i/o's therefore there is no reason for them to do so at this point. In spite of the fact that consoles are more like PC than ever, and the manufactures constantly compare their hardware to whats available on PC, industry standards are excluded for proprietary hardware limitations.

All I've been trying to point out to you is that there are alternative options if you want to use headphones, and that Microsoft's "proprietary" audio jacks aren't stopping you. A receiver may be expensive, but whether you like it or not, it's the only option available to you and any other person interested in higher quality audio.

Thank you for basically summing up my entire position so far. But there still a problem here too. Even if I did spend the extra money on a receiver then I'm left unable to communicate without heavy modifications. I would end up having to do something like this:

Then I would have to mod the end of that mic to fit into a 2.5mm jack. If it was on the PS4 I would be out of luck.

Use the mandatory Kinect that Microsoft is kindly including in your purchase for an additional $100 over the PS4.

Whether it's a headset or an audio chip, both up the cost. That's why they've decided to upset you and include neither.
You seem to be forgetting that Microsoft is a business. Don't like it? Stick with the glorious PC gaming master race and give Gaben your money instead.

I'm totally fine with them leaving the cheap headset out. And if I was a pc elitist I wouldn't care enough to even visit this thread.

i don't understand why all these companies are so insistent on you using their stupid proprietary headsets. if you want to convince customers that your system sound quality is crap, sounds like a perfect way

I'm really starting to think we're both on completely different pages.

In post #22, you were explaining how the controller port would be unable to drive $400 headphones. I was questioning why you would want $400 headphones plugged into the controller, because the only thing the controller's audio port is for is voice chat.

You totally misinterpreted what I was saying. The history of home consoles not having an audio jack on them wasn't to support Microsoft's decision, it was to point out that you shouldn't be surprised at the lack of one. It's nothing new.

Again, use the Kinect. That's one of it's advertised features; being a microphone.

I bet the Steambox will have a dedicated headphone port for you to use.
