Looking for great monitor...replacing Apple

Thread Starter
One of my bosses is replacing his MacBook with an ultrabook and won't be able to use his Apple monitor anymore.

I need something right around 27-30 inches, as high resolution as possible, and something business oriented. He won't be playing games or anything on it.

I am looking at maybe a Dell U2713HM-IPS-LED CVN85 27-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor... but thats the high end of the budget.

if we can stick under 600 that'd be great, under 400 that'd be ideal.

thanks

The Dell U2713HM is probably your best bet if you're willing to spend that much on it.

If you want something a bit cheaper then you are going to have to go Korean, if you want an IPS monitor then the Crossover 27Q is the best. If you want a PLS monitor then the Qnix QX2710 and X-Star DP2710 have been getting lots of praise.

HDMI has a bad track record for support in high res monitors. Many high res monitors don't support 1440p+ over HDMI, unfortunately. Including, alas, the otherwise excellent U2713hm. And not all laptops support high res output via HDMI.

Hence why I hope you made sure his Ultrabook had DisplayPort.

Don't go Korean for your boss. If it's for business, don't go there.

1. It's not your money.
2. It *is* your time/stress that will be used to support him if something is wrong.
3. As a cost-benefit analysis, generally, if your boss loses even a single hour of productivity due to monitor issues, and you lose an hour trying to help him, you'll have paid more to use that korean monitor than you would have if you'd gone with a brand-name monitor with (true) support.
