Laptop draws from battery while gaming - should I be concerned?

Hello.
I got a new laptop with specs:

i7-4800mq
GTX 780m
16GB Kingston HyperX
128GB Corsair Force GS
1TB Toshiba HDD

Running Windows 8

So I've had this laptop for about a week, and I decide to play Planetside 2 for a couple of hours. No problems, game runs great on ultra. When I start to turn off the computer after this gaming session, I realize that the battery is charging at 96%. Keep in mind the laptop has always been plugged, never unplugged. Should I be concerned? The battery charged back up to 100% in regular time, but did the laptop not receive enough power from the AC/DC plug to power itself? The fans were running consistently, but they weren't straining themselves or going anywhere near max RPM. Is it a faulty battery, normal, should I be concerned?

Did you have the settings on max while you were gaming, did you try to turn down the settings, and has this ever happened before with other games?

It could be that the battery had huge drain because the fans and the game were going on, and it was not charging because the fans were going and you were gaming.

If it happens without you playing a game, then I'd say it's the battery.

96% I'd be ok with that. Sometimes laptops will hang out around 96-97% now as the power routes around the battery now instead of constantly draining then filling in order to power the laptop.

They do this now to preserve the battery. If it drops below 90% Then i'd worry.

I had settings on max, but my computer did not seem to be straining itself. I was getting constantly high frame rates, and the fans were not anywhere near max RPM. I haven't played any other games yet, and it doesn't drain like that while idle.

Alright. I'll keep that in mind.

Which laptop is it? I think one of the new MSI laptops will actually use the battery and the power supply to go into some sort of "boost" mode to get higher wattage for the CPU and GPU.

Another option to explore is you could pull the battery and see if your FPS goes down or the whole system powers down.
