ATI 7970, coil whine after adding waterblock

Hello.

After I added waterblock to my Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970, there was coil whine (really annoying)
I cant remember to having any coil whine before I added the water block, used my computer for a few months before I started with watercooling.
So can a waterblock "create" some kind of coil whine?
I've dealt with the coil whine for a while now, in hopes that it's goes away, but I installed Sims 3 and played it, it sound's like a jet engine when I playing Sims 3.
And lately I've been having artifacts and gfx error while playing the game.

I disconnected the GPU, and used the internal gpu on the motherboard, and there wasnt any coil whine, so its safe to say it is the gpu, and not the motherboard or any other?

And will I be able to replace the waterblock with the stock cooler (saved everything) and RMA it without any issues?

Looks like it's the GPU. Sometimes coil whine will go away or not be an issue but if you're getting artifacts with the 7970 and none with the integrated then I would RMA the gfx card.

And yes, replace everything the way it was and you can RMA it no problem usually. Good luck.

P.S. if you fill in your rig specs here it's easy to figure out what you have. I'm assuming you have a decent and powerful enough PSU and such.

Thanks, I got Corsair AX 800W, so there is enough power.

I remember a long time ago on my laptop (still running today) Sims 3 would always artifact however every other game ran fine, run OCCT or Furmark to check for artifacts. As for the coil whine, you'd be surprised just how loud a blower style heatsink on a graphics card can be once you experience something much quieter like watercooling. Just my 2cents

I also have a coil whine on my Sapphire 7970 OC Edition Dual-X. I haven't noticed it before. It have passed 1 year now since I bought it and I think I can't go and RMA it. Come on it won't be possible! XD.
It coil whines on all games, but on some others its just inaudible, but it still present. I have just installed Sims 3 and its damn loud. I have found out that it depends on the resolution of the game: at 1024x768 is too loud!!, at 1920x1080 it is noticeable, at 5760x1080 (eyefinity) is not much audible but still present. Some light please on this issue!!!!. I have added a waterblock since I migrated to water cooling too. Is Coil Whine a problem? Would it be a potencial damage to the GPU?, Can I still use the GPU and still get the cr...p out of it, I mean Overclock it?.

I had no problem when RMA mine, I live in Norway and we hade different warranty here. There was small coil whine on the new replacement (can't here it when the case is closed) but they didn't accept another RMA.

Btw the reason the coil whine is so much higher in the sims3 is because of there isn't any refresh lock in the game. If you Google 3booster and FPS limiter, this will set at certain FPS lock and after the coil whin will reduce to normal.

You should try to RMA if it annoys you, worst cause you get a no.

As far i know, coil whine won't do any harm on you gfx card, even though is sounds like it:-P
