I mean I can't think of a single person I know who is raving about the Kinect. Sales success? Maybe ( I could argue against that ), but is it good? Not really. I think Kinect if anything has pushed me away from wanting to own a XB1, it almost feels like they've lost sight of what made them a rival to Sony.
Sales might not equal flourished, but for a add-on to come out near the end of a consoles life and to sell at a good rate is a pretty good sign that people in general liked it. Sony tried to join the bandwagon with the eyetoy and the controllers with the stupid balls on the ends but failed in a huge way. I see people using the Kinect more then the Wii these days, I have a couple of friends who has all sisters. They went from playing those gimmicky games on the Wii (like the dance games you can cheat by just swinging the controller around) to playing Kinect games. I see them playing the Kinnect all the time, the Wii on the other hand is covered in dust like most peoples Wii.
While they might not be the majority, Kinect still is doing better then most of you think.
Kinect has a poor software library, simply doesn't have enough quality titles. While it still does have some good games (mostly 3rd party) the lack of must have games probably kept kinect from appealing to hardcore gamers. Though for a add-on
to come out that late in life and still do that well even though the incentive to make games for a device most people don't have is pretty good feat. Kinect will be a day one thing and everyone will have it, Kinect Based library will explode with titles this time. For someone getting a consoles for their kids, The Xbox One looks a lot better then getting a WiiU ATM or PS4 with eyetoy. While I doubt it will have the wii effect, the console simply is more appealing to casual gamers and people who like to exercise (and that part will probably take off like wii fit did).
Like I said before Kinect is more then just a extra addon for gaming, it is a automation tool and a controller enhancer. Even Sony with the Eye toy and color bars on the controllers are aiming for the same thing. Just that the xbox will already have that incentive to actually use them. The Software behind kinect is also years ahead of anything sony has when it comes to doing the same things.
While It is nicer that the ps4 is $100 less, I for one like a quality product. First off hardware behind a console doesn't mean crap, being slightly faster isn't going to do much other then make the games run at a slightly higher framerate or with more AA. 360 had a better GPU by a decent margin as well, not only does it tend to push more fps but also tends to hold up better to AA. While games themselves really didn't look all that different, other then ps3 games have lag/stutter problems and overall second rate performance. We have no idea what the front and back end of both the ps4 and one's gpus are like. %50 more shaders don't equal 50% more performance. Also We know from the 7970 and gtx680 that all that extra memory bandwidth doesn't always equal more performance ether. Also we have no idea what the cloud can do for the One, until we see we really have no idea on what will truly be the better console graphic wise. Though I only use consoles for exclusives, and for graphics I use my PC anyways.
Though that $100 less comes will a penalty. Software running the consoles will be second rate, have fun with the metro themed dashboard that screams cheesy ripoff, Online system that is inferior to XBL, sub par motion control options, no automation/smart functions, lacks multi media abilities, Controller has yet to prove it doesn't suck, Cloud system is vary sup par as well. Not to mention (even though personal) the games announced has been vary poor. Xbox One has a pretty solid lineup for launch and the first year, can't say the same for the PS4. I love some of the exclusives that the ps3 got, like uncharted and last of us, but we are not getting those types of games on the PS4 right away. I don't want to buy a PS4 just to wait for the first one-two years for better games to come along. It would be the same thing I suffered with the ps3, I would rather wait to get a PS4 when those games came out.
Games sell consoles, and PS4 an't got no games fool
Plus many of us would rather not support Sony (a company known for being anti consumer) during launch.Edited by DzillaXx - 6/26/13 at 11:12pm
