[SOLVED]Boot issues with Ballistix Tactical Tracer RAM and GA-Z87X-UD4H - Page 3

It may be fine with some other 1866 or 2400 or whatever ram
It just doesn't seem to like your ram, I have had this happen so many times over the years, especially on budget systems (which i know is not the case here)

see if you can exchange the ram as it really seems to be the crux of the problem

I already have. Currently using my old 1333 MHz KVR with no issues.

oh yes I realise you were using your old ram, but was wondering if you were going to switch the new stuff out for some different ram.
I know here in the UK the problem with returning ram that works but is incompatible carries a restocking fee.

I've emailed Gigabyte Tech Support and they got back to me very quickly, asking me for RAM part number and info and also asked me to check if there are any bent pins in the CPU socket.
Now, when I got the board, there weren't any bent pins. Could I have bent any pins while mounting the cooler/installing the chip?
It's a lot of hassle to take the cooler off as I would have to clean both the cooler's and the CPU's surface and I'm running out of cleaning liquid.
Also I think the memtests would have shown errors if the chip had bent pins and the RAM couldn't operate properly...

There is NO way on this planet that you got 3 days+ use out of a board with bent pins,I think it's a standard question.
mounting the cpu it is possible to bend pins if you have the chip the wrong way up, they also insist that the plastic socket cover is on whenever a cpu is not present , it does pop out automatically when locking a cpu in place.

Once the cpu is in you would have to apply incredible pressure to crush the socket/pins/cpu

You can take it off to check but I highly doubt any damage has been done plus if you are sending it back you will have to take the cpu out anyway.

fixed

Sucks to have incompatible memory and it barely ever happens I myself never check the QVL unless purchasing more than 8 sticks (of ECC REG ram)
hope it fixes your problem.

Got the G.Skill Sniper through the post a day ago.
No problems so far.
Gigabyte provided excellent support. I emailed my problem to them and they got back to me the next day, very quick response and very helpful too for troubleshooting! (They even went as far as testing the same RAM on their UD4H.) Good first impressions for sure!

So looks like my issue is solved, and for the record this new RAM is on the QVL while the Ballistix wasn't. If I remember correctly, the Sniper is the only 8 GB set of 1866 MHz RAM that's on the QVL that would fit under my cooler, but even with these I had some trouble mounting it below my Phanteks. I just moved the front fan up a notch and that sorted that (heat spreaders on the Sniper modules are a few mm taller than those on the Tactical Tracer).

Thank you to everyone who gave advice in this thread! thumb.gif

So happy you got it sorted out and Kudos to Gigabyte support for checking that brand of ram at their end.
