Headphone Amplifier on MSI Z87 G45 Gaming Motherboard???

Thread Starter
Alright, I've had my MSI Z87 G45 for about a week now. This build was very exciting for me, although I planned on getting a 4770k and overclocking for the first time, I found an awesome deal for this motherboard and an i5 4670 for only $300, which is cheaper than a 4770k all together. Now, I consider myself a noob audiophile, the headphones I own are Sony MDR XB500's, which I consider to be pretty amazing. But with this motherboard, I sensed a drop in the loudness of the system from my previous build. Also, there is no Realtek equalizer with the drivers to which I would set as "Powerful". This kind of made me mad but I can deal with it, if you can offer a equalizer I can download, that would be nice. But anyway, this is what the motherboard advertises, and I must say, I haven't experienced anything special.

AUDIO BOOST

Reward your ears with true quality. Get ready for ear-drum shattering sound, with MSI Audio Boost! With Audio Boost we're delivering the highest audio quality so you can enjoy crystal clear sound and music in games.

Because the complete audio circuitry is isolated from other features, you'll enjoy less interference and more stability.

The built-in headphone amplifier allows you to use studio-grade headgear and get the most amazing sound quality out of your gaming PC.

• Studio level Integrated 600Ω Headphone amplifier
• Gold-flashed audio jacks for pure audio signals
• EMI shielded audio codec
• High quality audio capacitors

Is this MSI just trying to sell a product? Because I believe that my audio experience has degraded.

So, long story short:

1. How do I take advantage of these features that my motherboard claims to have?

2. What can I do or buy to make my system sound the way I like it to?

Thanks Guys!!!thumb.gifbiggrin.gif

Please describe your audio setup from your previous build. That will provide a point of reference.

Also, was this a completely clean install? Did you use the bundled software and drivers or download? Techpowerup had an issue on the GD65 with the audio software on first install. A clean OS install fixed the issue.
