Internet Connections - Operating system Re-image/reformat

Hi there,

I am not sure that it is the right place to be posting this but I guess here will do... Maybe? If not I am incredibly sorry.

So I acquired a crappy desktop computer from school, Just old inferior technology or just old desktop which i got for putty Tunneling mainly.

When i picked it up the teacher suggested that i need to reformat/re-image with a Windows disk because it wont come off of the school proxy or something like that, I know that he said that it wouldn't connect up to any other internet other than mine, So I was just wondering if anyone could help me with this.
Is there another way that I can do it without actually having to this? And this I mean the Re-imaging or Reformatting it to clear the proxy settings (I think that is what he said it was. I will ask him to make sure)

Any help would be appreciated.

Just thought that it might be helpful to know why I am getting this inferior hardware for hardly any reason, Well I am getting it to set it up as either a Tunneling server for my Home internet, so i can connect to it from any computer through PuTTY and receive quick files through PuTTY.

Thanks.

Ok.
So. I found out what is stopping me from getting onto the computer. I understood totally wrong.
Apparently, the login service that they use, Novell won't let me log in, because all the informations on their servers and stuff.
So obviously there is no way that I delete Novell without deleting and reloading windows.
So this, in turn answered my question pretty much.
