Well, imma be upgrading my system this tusday. Not sure what to change thought.

I currently have this:

AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1800mhz non overclocked)
ASUS A7N8X nForce 2 Motherboard (No PCI-E)
eVGA Geforce 6600GT 128DDR (535/1.4ghz overclocked)
Corsair 1GB DDR PC3200 Dual Channel

Now, I was thinking of buying:

- XFX GeForce 7800 GS Xtreme Limited Ed / 256MB GDDR3 / AGP 8x
- Corsair 1GB DDR PC3200

Not sure if i should get that or a Athlon XP 3200+ and a the same video card and stay with 1 GB RAM.. OR istead buying...

- BFG GeForce 7600 GS OC / 512MB GDDR2 / AGP 8x
- Additional Corsair 1GB DDR PC3200
- AMD Athlon XP 3200+

... What do u guys think....?? Option 1, Option 2, Option 3.... My goal its to be able to play Everquest 2 at a decent setting, not with 25fps but maybe 40fps or so ... at medium settings or maybe high if even possible lol..

Dont have more than 450 bucks to spend as of right now..

Thanks all

Wow, socket A, that is some ailing technology. Honestly, I think I would go with option 3. That being said, upgrading technology that old really is futile. I would say keep playing eq2 with what you have on low settings and save up 900 or so, with which you can make a much more balanced rig.

I already have a Intel core 2 duo 2.14ghz .... i think i will prob buy a badass motherboard and a vid card and hold on for more money and then get new RAM.

The motherboard i was thinking of was the "EVGA nForce 680i SLI NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard"

Read alot about it and it seems to be a sweet one.

And thought about a 7900GT or something of the sourt and thats it..

Or get a lower Motherboard, a 7600gt pci-e (maybe 2) and 1 gb ram.. or just 1 7600gt and 2 gb ram LOL..

soo many combos.. what u guys think?

Sorry for repost what u all think about this:

- XFX GeForce 7900 GS Extreme / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI
- Asus P5NSLI NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard
- Corsair Value Select Dual Channel 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 Memory (2 x 512MB)

Or maybe get a lower XFX, such as the 7600 GT 256MB?

how did you reach 1400mhz on the memory with your 6600gt ???? any pics , benchmarks ??
about the new card if u want a card to last get the 7900gs but if u plan to upgrade soon to directx 10 get the 7600gt , also don,t get the 7600gs (ddr2) it,s not much stronger than the 6600gt if u want to feel the deference then at least get 7600gt

As others have said, step up to 939. I just recently upgraded from a Socket A setup to the rig in my sig. Got the mobo, CPU, 7600GT and AC Freezer for <$400, so it's within your budget to do so.

I'd get a good Socket 939 CPU and Motherboard. I've had Socket 939 since March 2005 and I've been playing Counter-Striker: Source, Half Life: 2, BattleField: 2, and World of Warcraft. Also, I can play Dawn of War and Call of Duty pretty nicely at 1280x1024. What's your budget? You can get a really nice Socket 939 computer setup from Newegg.

[OCN] Ninja_Boy

Socket 939 - $414

Also, you could get another 1GB of DDR ram to match your Corsair so you can have 2GB of Corsair Ram which would run really nice with an Opty and that DFI Motherboard.
