Haswell 4770k - is it normal to run this hot?

This is ridiculous. Just got around to doing some mild OCing and here is what I'm looking at. 4.2ghz 1.188v and hitting 89C?!?! This is everything pretty much stock in the BIOS, except dynamic vcore is set to -.050v. Cooled by an NH-D14 (yes I applied thermal paste correctly and it is seated properly) in an ambient room temp of about 76F. My buddy has a vice and I'm going to delid this in a couple weeks I'm pretty sure.

Does anybody else have it as bad as me? Do people not use prime95 small FFT to stress these?

Seems to be about the consensus....and people think Nehalem runs too hot....

Start up Intelburntest so you can hit 95C. lachen.gif

Those peak temps seem too high. Testing on AIDA64 I would peak at ~82-84c with 4.4ghz @ 1.2v using hyper 212 (with ambient temp of 27c). The D14 is a better cooler than the hyper 212.

AIDA64 is preferred over prime95 as AIDA64 is optimized for haswell and prime95 is not. As a result, prime95 runs cooler than AIDA64 for haswell processors during stress testing.

Playing some TF2 right now only in mid 40s. Not very demanding though I'm only around 20% usage tops usually.

Once you delid, you will be amazed. I yielded roughly a ~25C drop at 1.247v.
