Upgrade from GTX 580 to GTX 780!

Thread Starter
Hello

I want to upgrade from my MSI GTX 580 Twin Frozr III to GTX 780 (asus or msi)...

Like you see in my signature I have:

CPU: Intel i5 2500k @ 4.2GHz

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4

I want to know if I have to replace my cpu and motherboard for 780 or I will squeeze all from 780 whit that settings or will there be bottleneck in cpu and motherboard....

Please can you advise me what to buy and what I can keep...

oh I update manly because of BF4....smile.gif

best regards

You should be fine with your current 2500k, especially if it's overclocked you shouldn't see any bottle-necking issues. Worst case scenario it's more cost efficient to sell off the 2500k and buy a 3570k for that extra 15%~ IPC gain.

I'd up the CPU to 4.5 GHz...

looks good tho! go for it!
That's a great upgrade and and wise one as well since GTX 780 is a successor to GTX 580.

Your CPU is absolutely fine to go with that GPU.

I did that move but not directly..
my 'daily driver' 1080p rig was a 2500K and GTX 580 SC and now it's a 3570K and GTX 780 (WF3)..
I went through other hardware in the middle like a few mobos a 660 Ti and 670 to try them out but in the end,
GTX 780..

you should be good but I'd see about turning up your overclock up a bit..

your 2500K will be more than fine for a single 780.

all you need to buy is the 780, everything in your sig is fine.. maybe just OC that 2500k to 4.5-4.7 since you have the cooling that will handle around that OC just fine.
