Haswell running hot?

Thread Starter
I just got my new computer, and i'm kinda worried about the temperatures. I use a stock cooler, so my idle cpu temperature is in the mid 60's celcius, and at load it goes near 70 degrees celcius, Should I be worried about these temps?

I have an i5 4670K

Nah, 70 is absolutely fine.
If you get to about 85 then you should start to worry. My mum's computer runs at 95 :/.

70s are fine under load, but I'm curious as to how you could possibly be idling at 60 degrees, normally you'd be idling in high 30s

EDIT: if you're hitting 70s under load of web browsing and basic tasks, I'd reseat your heatsink. What temps do you hit running Prime95?

Oh nevermind about the idle temps, it seems that my idle temps ar around 40-high 30's tongue.gif
But 69-70 still seems pretty hot :/ will it cause CPU degredation?

Oh, then you're temps are right on thumb.gif

My 3570k at stock with the intel heatsink would hit high 70s under full load, so you're good wink.gif

I have a TS140 with me right now but the fan mounting system is absolutely horrid.
I need to remount it on the weekend

edit: "Oh nevermind about the idle temps"... oh nevermind my post smile.gif

~70 under load is perfectly fine and good, but 60s is pretty high for idling and doesn't make sense.

* What is the cpu load, clock, voltage when your system is "idling"?
* Did you turn off the power saving features in the BIOS and Windows Control Panel?

I don't have a haswell, but i expect it should downclock to something 1.xx Ghz at idle. I've got a first gen i7 that settles down to 1.4 when not doing much of anything.

Yeah that would be a pain to mount the fans with those clips, but there's a lot of copper meat on that heatsink, you should be able to pull some pretty solid temps (Especially at stock)

70 is even typical for a aftermarket headsink/fan combo. It really depends on the ambient temps around the computer...but no at 70 you will be fine...Hazwell/Ivy's are known to run a little on the warm size anyway. Just make note of the temps every couple of weeks. Make sure your case is cleaned out really well to keep dust out and you shouldnt have any issues.
