Need help with overclocking a 3.0GHZ Northwood

Thread Starter
First of all i have a a250n old HP comp that has a little upgrades:
2.6GHZ CPU
6600GT Video Card
1GB Memory
430W PurePower

I would like to be able to play games like FEAR, DOOM and CSS with no problem and on high res, what should i upgrade on my pc? And for those who would say to just upgrade to PCI-E sorry but i cant make that jump yet...

1. What i was thinking is buy a 3.0GHZ and overclock it to about 3.6GHZ $80
2. Another 1 Gig of ram $80
3. And last maybe upgrade my videocard to the X850XT or X850XT PE $200+

Which of those steps you guys think i should do? Thx

p.s. As for the overclocking i have no idea how is done any good pages i should know about?

Because all prebuilt computers have very crappy mobos for overclocking.

Most dont have any voltage/fsb options

To start off,

Here's info on this computer so we can help assist nOObstorm.

HP.COM A250N

I reckon you're starting with something like a 360 dollar budget, or thats what you're working towards.

I don't have much experience with Intel from 2002- up untill now. That computer just looks a little outdated. DDR is okay, PC2700 ram, not so much. accepting a max of a 512 chip of ram per slot is kind of rough.

All in all, I'd hold off and save for a good overhaul. Maybe an AMD 939, AM2, or Conroe.

If you must, I wouldn't keep investing to much in that system. You're video card is a good one for the system specs you have. CHeck around and see if you can overclock that P4.

Welcome to the forum BTW!

Agree with gre0481, you better wait until you get more budget to get yourself a whole new rig, that one is quite... old.
Don't even bother buying that Gig of ram, you won't really need it... As if you do, you would've spent on a gig of ram you'd use temporarily between this rig and the next one...
Just wait until you get more savings !
