would you recommend a 7900gt volt mod?

Thread Starter
i have an evga 7900gt stock clocked at 450mhz....ive read many reviews on the volt mod for the 7900gt and how beneficial it is but my main concern is, is it worth it??...i hear that it is but id rather ask someone that is familiar with overclocking (you guys)....do you think this will burn my card up or kill the card?...i know i have a warranty but i hate pushing the envelope when it comes to things of this sort....I plan on upgrading to a nv5silencer or possibly a zalman and doing the mod myself....anyone have any objections to this??...please let me know THANKS!!

you NEED aftermarket cooling FIRST, but if you go for something "safe" like 1.4v youll be fine (GTX's come with 1.4v stock, anyway!)

well im most definitely gonna get the cooler first.....im wondering whether i should get an nv5silencer and mod it to fit the 7900 or if i should go with something else (no thermalright-to expensive-)...any suggestions??...and 1.4v wouldnt be too serious to cause the card to burn??

Have you tried overclocking your video card at all yet? What's the best stable core OC?
Once again...

I did the 1.4 volt mod, and I would recommend it to anyone that has enough money to purchase a VF-900. My results with the 1.4 vmod were 650 on the core, completely stable, load temps in the upper 50's. The vmod is extremely easy to do, all you need is some tape and a circuit writer pen. There is a very good faq here at OCN you can go by. Here is a pic of the mod to show you just how easy it is.
