What I never understood why wouldn't one be able to live of 7.25 dollar/hour in America I mean life in America is generaly cheaper than here in NL also the house prices are like 1/4 of what they are here.
40 hours a week 160 hours a month would give 1160 dollar I'm pretty sure you can live from that as a single person can live of that in NL. (in NL you would have to rent for that money but you get my point)
Well, first off, just about all companies don't hire full time. Some do, but most don't. This is to avoid giving the workers benefits.
Second, there are a lot of people who have families. Minimum wage won't even be enough to keep the kids fed.
So you have families with 2 jobs each and then the kids see very little of their parents.
Third, house prices are not cheap here. They just aren't.
I will grant you that for some areas, minimum wage is livable off for individuals.
But this excludes families and high living areas, which excludes a ton.
And just to be sure anyone reading this doesn't grasp what we are talking about, we are talking about a livable wage
, as in one where I can feel safe and not be hungry... about all. Very, very little spending money.
Living paycheck to paycheck is not fun.
Got a broken down vehicle? Either have a friend or walk to work.
Sick? Either suffer or get charged $1200 for a single emergency visit.Edited by kennyparker1337 - 6/30/13 at 12:27pm
