Any way to minimise/restrict Windows 7 pagefile usage? - Page 4

That is actually an interesting remark. I can't really remember if I went without page file after putting an additional 8G ram in my machine or before.

Maybe I'll try booting with 8G in the weekend and see if it complains, I have to overhaul some stuff anyway as I am going SLI so might as well check this smile.gif

Yeah, I'm almost certain I've disabled the pagefile in the past with only 8GB but perhaps some Windows Update has changed this.

I've not been using a page file for two years now with 8GB RAM and I haven't had a single problem.

Well I ran ArmA with my 6GB RAMDisk mounted on my 16GB system with no pagefile and I'm not getting any errors now, so it seems there must have been something messed up with my old Windows install that was causing them smile.gif

I still can't disable the flipping pagefile on my 8GB system though and when it reboots it says

"Windows created a temporary paging file on your computer because of a problem that occurred with your paging file configuration when you started your computer"

and it creates a 8GB pagefile on C: . Going into the Virtual Memory settings, it shows that No Paging File is set for C: and D: but if I click Set on C:, it registers a change and makes me reboot, so obviously that screen is out of sync with the actual situation. The same thing happens after rebooting again.

I've done sfc /scannow which reveals no problems, so I'm at a loss what to do next. Is there some obscure Windows registry setting that could be forcing it to create a pagefile?

If the creature keeps whining give it a rattle: Set a fixed 16MB (minimum size allowed by Se7en) PF in ramdisk, and it will shut up.

No worries. I checked the registry and it had the pagefile pointing to f:, which was a second HDD I've removed. I set it back to D: and set TempPageFile to 0 and I've been able to disable it now smile.gif

Need to make a mental note, if removing a HDD check the pagefile isn't located on it first rolleyes.gif

Well I haven't had any problems using my 6GB ArmAII RAMDisk without a pagefile.

With my 8GB DCS World RAMDisk though, I have been getting "Low memory" warnings from Windows popping up, which are annoying as they minimise the game. I still have around 2GB Available and 1GB Free when these are happening, so I'm going to try disabling the warnings like this http://halflight.com.au/2011/04/06/how-to-disable-low-memory-warnings-and-the-advantages-of-removing-the-page-file/

This refers to a third key to delete but I think I'll try with the other two first and see if that's sufficient http://superuser.com/questions/41789/how-to-suppress-low-memory-warnings-in-vista-home-premium-when-running-without

I'd prefer to be able to set the low memory warnings to something much lower, like 500MB Available, as then there'd at least be some warning if it really was getting low but that doesn't seem to be possible unfortunately.
