Problem with 2nd gtx 680

Thread Starter
I recently bought a gtx 680 superclocked and Ive been getting the nvidia drivers have crashed and recovered. Ive tried different drivers from nvidias site and Im currently using 314.22 and no matter the drivers it still happens. Also when I look in gpu-z it shows as running @x1 instead of x16 and I have removed anything else in any pcie slots. Ive tried downclocking the card and it stills happens.

When I switched to my original gtx 680 i dont get any of these problems. Gpu-z shows this card running at x16 like its suppose to and I dont get driver crashes.

Did I just end up with a bad card or is there something Im missing. Any help is appreciated.

My specs are:
i5 3570k
z77 sabertooth mobo
16gb ram g skill sniper
2(128gb) ssds in raid 0
1(1tb) hdd
750w xfx psu

When I got the 2nd card i just put it in sli and I got the error, so I took them out and tried using it by itself.

Yes I have tried different drivers and it crashes with the superclocked no matter the driver but witht my original one I get no crashes.

Are they both the same card? SLI requires that both cards be exactly the same

No. SLI requires the model, i.e. GTX 680, to be the same. It, however, does not have to be the same card, i.e. the same manufacturer, etc.

Right now I do not have the cards in sli because after I put it in I had the drivers crash. I only have one of them in the computer at a time. The superclocked one is giving me the nvidia driver crashes but the other one doesnt.

I thought they had to be the exact same card? Same clocks and everything?

I think that might be a bad card then sorry to say, if only the one is doing it, even when it's on it's own, RMA the card if you can

Only other thing I can say to try is to fire up Afterburner and set the clocks to the same clock speed as the "slower" card. Maybe that will fix your problem, but if not I'd say you got a faulty GPU.

I would try increasing the Power Percentage, and after running a bench or game see the logs. It may be the card is spikingin the power pct, whichcauses crashes. Also, see if you get constant clock speed or if it fluctuates.
