Intel Newbie needs help. i5-3570k or i7-3770k

Okay so it's been a long time from the last time I upgraded my computer. I'm more of an AMD boy so I don't really know anything about Intel. But I'm looking into trying them for my next upgrade.

Right now I have a AMD Pheonom II x4 955, Corsair H80 watercooler, Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H, xfx radeon 7870 1ghz (Upgraded from a ATI 5850 last month), 12GB of RAM and a OCz Agility 3 120GB, 700w PSU

Now I don't know what CPU to pick a i5-3570k or a i7-3770k I talked to a friend that know his Intel and he said I should get a i7-3770k. Now I play a lot of games from FPS's to multiboxing a lot of MMO's. Right now I multibox 4 Eve Online clients at once plus when I'm just AFK mining with the account I play league of legends. With all that running my CPU sits at about 90% load and sometimes I can see the lagg start plus I want to start multiboxing a few more account for Eve.

My friend said the i7-3770k would be better at all the multitasking but I just want to see what other people have to say. So if anyone could help me out that would be great!

Edit: I should add that I do more then game I do work with Maya from time to time and I work with Unity3D and CryTek Engine a lot.

Well obviously the i7 is better but I think that for you the i5 should be enough.

I use the 3770K for my gaming PC and it's great. I do more than just gaming on it so the hyper threading helps. When you think about it a chip should pretty much last you forever so it never hurts to invest on it.

I like said I do multibox a lot and I plan on adding more accounts to it so I want to make sure that if I do get the i5-3570k it can handle all that load.

I got my Phenom II x4 955 black edition when they came out in 2009. So I've had it for ages and this upgrade I want to last for ages too. Plus the chip is going to be more then gaming I do work with Maya time to time and with Unity3D and the CryTek Engine a lot.

Well now that I'm back on my computer rather than my phone I can type without sounding like I have dyslexia lol though I am tipsy at the moment tongue.gif

I had the 965 BE back then but I changed to Intel's 2500K because it sucked at overclocking due to the revision #. It's the predecessor to the 3570K which doesn't have extra hyper threading, basically 4 cores and 4 threads.

The benefits of the 3770K is that you can turn off the hyperthreading via motherboard bios and it'll act just like a 3570K. But in the end I'm like "well it's better to have it just in case, it may come in handy" and it probably saved me about 10% time waiting for 7zip files to some light video editing. the hyperthreading will just save you some time. Now if you can get the chip cheap like at a microcenter where it costs about 249 dollars it is a great deal.

I look at the hyperthreading like this: You have 4 doctors and 8 nurses. You know how doctors never do the menial stuff like giving shots or changing bed sheets, they leave it to the nurses. they just look at you, say you have this "symptom", prescribe you meds and that's it. They do the "Important stuff" like running your game. Now the hyperthreading does a lot of stuff in the background so having all 8 nurses work behind the scenes will speed things up which is why video encoding is fast.

Basically if you don't mind the extra 40-80 dollars for hyperthreading the 3770K is perfect. Yeah it might hamper your overclocking a little bit but that's in the high overclocks past 4.4 otherwise it's no problem. This is coming from someone who owned 3 3770K chips.
