ASUS Z77 Sabertooth Overclocking Problem (3770k & 3570k)

Hi Everybody,

Right, I have a weird problem when overclocking with my Z77 Sabertooth.
I have 2 chips, a 3570k and a 3770k. I had the 3570k to start off, then I started doing some video stuff so I upgraded to the 3770k for the Hyperthreading.

Anyway, the problem I have is that when OC'ing either chip, if I take the vcore voltage above 1.3v I get BSOD almost instantly on both chips.
For instance, the 3570k @4.6Ghz is completely 100% stable at 1.298v but if I increase the voltage even at the same clock speed to 1.310v I get BSOD! The same thing with the 3770k, completely stable at 1.300v but if I increase it to 1.310v...... BSOD! I've tried changing the clocks when I go over 1.3v, I've tried stock clock @ 1.31v = BSOD, 4.0Ghz @ 1.31v BSOD, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3..... all the way to 4.9Ghz, but still BSOD at any clock if I go over 1.3v! mad.gif

All temps are well within safe zone, neither chip goes above 65c @ 1.3v. I have tried updating BIOS and going back to older versions as well.

So can anyone tell me if there is some sort of protection on this MoBo that stops you from going above 1.3v???
Is there something else other than the vcore I should adjust when going higher???
Maybe something else, could it be the RAM causing problems???
Or what about Windows, could W7 be causing it, should I try a full format and reinstall of the OS???

I'm totally lost, really need some expert advice here please.

Thanks everybody, really appreciate it.
Regards

Please provide detailed screenshots of your BIOS settings. I have a feeling it might be in there.
You can directly do that from the BIOS (F12 is the hotkey) if you have a USB storage device plugged in - a flash drive or something.

There is nothing that would stop you from going over 1.3V on the Core in that motherboard.
And regarding the overclock tuning when going high - I'd suggest reading through some topics here:

[Update]

After a CMOS Clear and a full format and fresh install of W7 the problem still persists! Anything above 1.3v results in BSOD (0x124).

I've been doing some reading and I've seen a few threads with similar issues where the advice was to increase the Northbridge voltage. Could this help, and if so what is the NB voltage called on ASUS Z77 MoBo's???

Refer to post above, please. People would rather not take wild guesses as to what the problem may be with so many variables in the equation. wink.gif

Here we go, I think I got pics of everything important. Thank you for looking at this, it's completely got me stumped!

Okay. You might enable BCLK recovery back - I take it as a fail-safe precaution; at least it doesn't hurt. Since you are also not clocking the FSB any higher.
The CPU Power Phase Control you can easily set to Extreme to unlock all the CPU power phases.
Also set Voltage Frequency to Manual and fix it @ 350
Power Duty control can also be Extreme.
Drop the PLL down to ~1.7-1.75V.

I'm at work right now, if I stumble upon anything else, I'll let you know once I get back home. thumb.gif
