Is it OK to use a Headphone Slitter lead?

Thread Starter
Hi smile.gif

Firstly I'm talking about my laptop which has only one stereo headphone out!
But what I want to do is use a stereo splitter lead, so I can use my 5.1 headphones using the front and side stereo channels for stereo!

So is it OK to use a stereo splitter lead so I'm like running two pairs of headphones from one port?
But my question is, does it put more strain on my sound card?

Thanks

It may change the tonal characteristics if you are running both devices at the same time.

As far as whether or not it puts strain on your sound card, we need to know the impedance of the two devices and the output impedance of the card itself.

Headphone impedance vary quite a bit, say from 30ohm to 300ohm, so it really depends on your equipment.

Well, the sound card will definitely be sourcing more current. But sound card outputs are designed to be able to handle a dead short if need be, so don't worry about it doing any damage or anything.
