Dolby Headphone on Xonar DG config

Thread Starter
I just tried the dolby headphone option on my Xonar DG in Metro Last Light, in both 5.1 and 7.1 mode and it it didn't really seem to improve my experience. Besides, I don't like that echoey feel at all. Is there any way to get rid of it?

I use a pair of Ultrasone Pro-550's and, considering their soundstage, I doubt that they're the ones to blame.

Am I doing something wrong? Here's the way I set it up, with the standard Xonar Drivers:
1) Set to 6 channels in the Xonar audio center
2) Checked dolby headphone
3) Went to Control Panel->Sound, clicked on the Xonar speakers, and configured it. Checked the "full range speakers" box.
4) Started the game.

Any ideas?

Install unixonar drivers, then install the optional 7.1 virtual surround add-on (alters the positioning of the virtual speakers).
Then put on 8channel.

DH is made to imitate movie theaters so that is why it might sound weird. You could also try the Xear3D that comes with the Unixonar version that doesnt havea asus control panel.
Xear3D is the chipset surround-driver.

Did you turn on the headphone amp, by clicking the hammer looking icon next to "Analog Out" & selecting "Pro-gaming mode" or "Exciter Mode"? Personally I think the audio quality is best with headphones on 2 channel, some EQ tweaks (under "Effects") and 7.1 & DH off. If you want simulated surround try out Razer Surround (http://www.razerzone.com/surround), it does a much better job than Xonar Audio Center IMHO.

Yea, the amp is turned on to Pro Mode. Exciter mode makes the highs even brighter than they already are and makes a hissing noise. I guess it's the interference from the PSU.

I tried Razer Surround and it improved my experience indeed. I need to reconfigure it though, the 2 and 10 o'clock sound directions are off.

I'm installing the UNi Xonar drivers now. I'll drop by after a couple more hours of playtime with them.

LE: How do I get Xear3D to work? All I see is a button that doesn't do anything, I think.
