HTPC doubling as low budget gamer

I've been wanting to do an HTPC build for a while now. One thing I would like to incorporate into it is the ability to have it double as low budget gamer for when my main rig is down, I have a friend over, or need a light rig to take on the road for whatever reason. Main requirements are 3D capable and 1080p gaming at medium settings. Budget is $500ish, but I'll be yanking some things from my main gaming rig for this. Actual parts ordering and building are 1-2 months out.

Tentative Parts List

CASE: Silverstone MILO3 (I really like the form factor and tiny size of this thing)
CPU: AMD Athlon X4 750K Trinity 3.4GHz Socket FM2
MB: ASRock FM2A75 Pro4-M FM2
SSD: Samsung 830 128GB (taken from main rig)
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
OD: LITE-ON IHBS112-04 (taken from main rig
GPU: Sapphire 100357LP Radeon HD 7750
PSU: SILVERSTONE Strider Plus ST50F-P 500W ATX
MISC: IR Receiver w/Cable and a Custom Mounting Bracket for use with ASRock CIR Motherboards
I also have an extra copy of win7 Pro lying around somewhere

Im wondering if maybe i should go with an APU like the A8-5600k or A10-5800k? I don't know much about the AMD APUs, but this would add a $10-20 to the build total. Is that worth it?

The GPU looks like it should be able to handle medium settings just fine. In order to get anything more powerful I would have to step up from a low profile GPU to a full sized card. Which would also mean I would have to pick a different case, since the MILO3 can only take LP cards. Another option would be to 2 7750s in crossfire, but I'm worried about heat generation. Also, I'm unsure if the MB i selected could handle cross fire, since the second PCIe2.0 lane would only be x4.

I picked the PSU and RAM to match the other parts, so I'm open to any options on these. I'm a bit worried about using that Silverstone PSU, but there aren't many Modular options at that size.

Lastly, I plan to do custom length sleeved cables for pretty much everything, mostly as practice for doing my main rig and to make sure everything fits. Im also worried about heat, I plan to down clock and undervolt the CPU when not gaming, but if someone could recommend some good (and quiet) 80mm fans I would appreciate it.

If you're going to go APU, I'd look into the 6800k over the 5800k at this point. I can't seem to find an honest review on them, though. I've been thinking the same thing myself, but I'm waiting to see an unbiased, in-depth review.
In progress.

What about the 740 3.2 - 3.7 quad but only 65w , lot less heat.
Also have a look at the HIS 7750 low profile, dual cooler.
Will that case take an ATX PSU ? it just looks a bit small in that vid , maybe an SFX PSU ?

Ok, the 6800k looked like it might over the price point im trying to hit, but if I can get a get a combo deal I'll consider it. I should probably look for some bench marks.

I originally considered the 740, but decided to pick a model with an unlocked multiplier. I can always downclock and undervolt to reduce power consumption and heat generation when I don't need more horsepower. Is there reason to grab that HIS other than the lower price? I like how Sapphire designed their 7750 to be single slot card. The case will take an ATX PSU up to 140mm in depth, but im worried the OD might interfere with modular connectors.

I actually like the Sapphire, but tweak town reports load noise @ 60.1dB with that small fan .
