Who makes the best / Quietest non-reference nVIDIA cards? (evga ACX, ASUS DirectCU, GB Windforce, MSI Frozr, etc..)

There are a lot of cards with non-reference designs that come out now, which ones are the best & most quiet?

* EVGA ACX
* ASUS DirectCU
* Gigabyte Windforce
* MSI Twin Frozr
* Zotac dual-fan
* Galaxy dual-fan
* other

Based on your own experiences, what you've heard or read, etc..

Ok are you asking about the cards or the coolers... You can not answer the question if you are asking about the card... because it is very model specific not brand specific. All of those companies have done horrible jobs and great jobs with cards in the past.

As far as the coolers go it can vary as well...

I personally don't know if the EVGA one is any good but I can say this about EVGA... while there RMA/Warranty policy is usually regarded as great I had a very bad experience with them making a FAKE (as far as I am concerned) high end dual fan cooler. I bought a EVGA Superclocked Signature II GTX 680. The main difference between that and the signature was that the Sig II had a dual fan that looked similar to what MSI, Asus, Etc offered and it claimed to be better and they charged an additional premium for it.

The fan was not any better than the factory fan because although it had 2 fans it was not made anywhere close to the same as the rest of the companies... The AVX looks similar to what the other companies offer but you need to read a review. Be careful I will never buy from them again because of that. It was very deceptive and I returned it... I a had plans to watercool and am watercooling my card now yet still I was so upset about the BS that I returned it.

Anyways that said I have owned TwinFrozr, DirectCUII, and Windforce equipped units. They have always been quieter and cooler running than what was offered by AMD/NVidia. One thing though is that those designed to not exhaust the air out of the case like the OEM designs do so it should be noted that they usually perform best with a intake fan on the side of the case and an exhaust fan on the rear.

Really tight cases may not do so well.

Usually I study the heck out of the cards and if there is any card that performs much better than the rest I usually go with that one as long as the cooler performs well. If the cooler quality is the most important thing to you then check the reviews for quietest then go by performance. Last I knew the DirectCUII was better than the TwinFrozr but that stuff can change if they update the cooler. Also Zotac reviews are good as well and so are the Galaxy.

In other words all of those coolers probably perform quite well so I would look at the board first.

I'm a large fan of Gigabytes Windforce x3. In terms of sound it's the best to me.

A very good reason why it is model specific. I would take the Windforce x3 over any of the dual fan solutions but not necisarilly the windforce x2. Usually only the highest end cards have the triple fan Windforce.

From http://www.guru3d.com/ reviews, MSI lightning has been on top for cooling/noise.

Also http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga.html (not sure about the hybrid) coolers are from another world when it comes cooling/noise, I haven't seen any other cooler come close.

It looks like the 760 has a 3 fan Windforce available. That's probably the lowest end you can get with 3 fans then.

I remember Arctic Cooling from back when I put one on my X800XT, I just checked newegg and it looks like their fancy model is 47% off for "48-hour only"
