Eventually portable devices become faster.
For quite some years laptops have reached performance levels that are passable to replace desktops completely for most users. Ofc, the key is "passable", desktops are ofc faster, but for most stuff, laptops are "fast enough".
In a few years, the same will be said for tablets, and eventually smartphones: both will be fast enough to make the need for a faster laptop or desktop to shrink, and eventually dissapear for everyone but demanding professionals, enthousiast gamers etc.
Something like super-high HP cars. I know its socking for most of you, but a Prius (or even better, small turbo gas and diesel engine powered cars with far smaller production footprint) is powerful enough even for fat behinds. The fact that we/you daydream about 8K V8s and 4HP/kg doesn't make it a need, makes us/you motorhead geeks. Plus, just like with superfast-clocked desktops, the vast majority of people owning or daydreaming about their "wannabe" superfast cars, cannot use them to their full potential, either cause it is illigal (lets say the apps are not there really), or cause they just don't know how.
Yes, there is e-peen and the notion that those will score you more girls...but plz, only your geek friends care
