[CL] Razer Kraken Pro gaming headset review - Page 4

Gotta love these threads. Always packed with rich snobs bashing $80 headsets, trying to convince people they're better off spending $400 on pair of Sennheisers.

i'd put my $60 etymotic mc5s against ANY pro gamer headset, including the $200+ ones. you can spend a lot on headphones or a little, but respectable brands have reasonably priced varieties, certainly below $80. and if you don't buy from a reputable brand, you will get garbage at every price level. and don't get me started on the "true surround" headsets, what a joke

For gaming, a pair of Audio Technica AD700's + a Zalman clip on mic cost less than $110 and are an order of magnitude better than anything from the "gaming" brands. For another $25 above that you can buy a set of like new Sennheiser HD558's off Amazon which are even better than that. Thats what I ended up doing. Someone broke the seal on the Sennheiser box and it went up on Amazon for $120 which is an absolute steal.

Someone in here mentioned that anything less than the $300 HD600's is not worth it. Couldn't be more wrong. I find that the 558/598 are even better.

LOL no, my $60 Grado SR80i's will sound and perform better than anything razer can push out.

If you're worried about what your headphones look like... well you're doing it wrong rolleyes.gif. Don't let Dr. Dre tell you headphones are the next fashion craze lachen.gif.

Personally I think my ATH-M50's are ugly, do I care? No way. They sound incredible for the ~$100 spent (I hear sometimes you can even steal them for $80-90?), and I actually do track guitar and work on music from time to time (the intended use for ATH-M50's). Great all around headphone, you can find them in tons of recording studios, they're relatively cheap and durable with good sound isolation.

I know that I am not an audiophile, but I did grab a pair of Sennhe's HD 202's...I know not the best but far from being crap.. $79 or cheaper and a lapel mic and your near golden....

As I said not the best but not cruddy either....I also use that Razer surround....does the job well...

Overall Razer makes some decent products.. but when it comes to headphones/headsets I'd never purchase a razer. They're overpriced and usually delivers poor sound, through both the headphones and mic.
