Just how bad would my FPS be with a 6870 and 1440p?

Anyone got anything similar? Could I just turn all the settings down to medium or so to get around 60 FPS on modern games? Some reviews show around 20 FPS on stuff like BFBC2, but that's on maximum detail. If I turned the detail down a little, would be graphics card still be good for a few more years?

EDIT: I have a 3570k so I don't think I will be bottlenecked or anything.

Here's some benchmarks of the AMD Radeon HD 6870.
Crysis: Warhead, with the following settings, (1680x1050 - Frost Bench - E Shaders/G Quality + 4xAA), you get about 55 FPS.
Batman: Arkham City, with the following settings, (1680x1050 - Very High Quality + FXAA-High), you get about 70 FPS.
Portal 2, with the following settings, (1680x1050 - Very High Quality + 4xMSAA/16xAF), you get about 125 FPS.
Battlefield 3, with the following settings, (1680x1050 - Medium Quality + FXAA-High), you get about 65 FPS.
Skyrim, with the following settings, (1680x1050 - High Quality + 4xMSAA/16xAF), you get about 95 FPS.

Hope that gives you an idea about what type of performance you would get with that card.
