Why is my GPU running so hot on idle? Even with just one monitor?

Hey guys,

My EVGA 670 has been running hot for some reason on idle temps. I'm currently running on one monitor.

The only fix I have found so far is using Nvidia Inspector and running the Multi-Display Power Saver. It makes my idle temps go from 42-45 C to about 32 C.

Is there any fix for this? I am running only on one monitor but my card is acting like I'm running on two.

i am assuming you have the reference design (full shroud with the blower?)

those do run warmer when idling. i have afterburner running with my fan curve just to keep the idle temps down; which are similar to yours with a 570. but 40-40c isn't hurting anything.

I'm just not sure why the multi-screen display software makes it lower temps.

maybe this will explain everything then:
HOWTO: Dual Monitor downclocking fix for nvidia cards

edit: just had a thought, do you have single display performance or multi display performance selected in the "manage 3D settings" in the NV control panel?

That might be the fix! Thank you!

Or could it be the driver issue as it has been going on for quite awhile lately ?
