I would think it would be alright simply because it is more expensive than a 7970 and puts out less PPD. It also isn't as expensive as a Titan, so gobs of money isn't as much a determining factor (admittedly not a cheap, but that is this hobby of ours now isn't it?).
It is a topic that has been discussed here:
Average most are seeing is ~150k PPD
As well as my current i7-2 folder Buzzin gets about that
It doesn't have to be now of course, but when would it be okay to start allowing these in? I guess the main point for now is how easy would it be for other teams to find people willing to fold that have this or similar that would make it more even for other teams?
It should be OK as far as I'm concerned. A bit unfair to teams that don't have one, but such is TC. It actually puts out quite a bit more than a 7970 (even though it shouldn't based on benchmarks).

Besides, my ongoing stance is that the more hardware that is eligible for TC, the more participation we'll have. And right now, we need all we can get.
I agree that the way BWG worded the NV hardware rules in 'the manual' already allow all Kepler. I also don't see where he made a thread, or discussed it much with Captains on adding 6xx or HD 7xxx series whenever they were allowed in. I think that was mainly because at the time Kepler was lower PPD than the 580s which many people were already using in TC, and likewise the 7xxx series got worse PPD than the 58xx AMD GPUs.
I also agree with constantly evolving the eligible hardware with the latest generation, which was why I pushed to get Ivy added last summer, and then added SB-E in January. I'm all for allowing 7xx series into the NV slot. With the exception of the 780, the rest of them shouldn't even be too much different PPD wise from 6xx series, and if somebody drops $700 on a new GPU to fold on, they should have a bit of an advantage ;)
