54Mbps is that of your USB or PCIe adapter?

both usb and the pcie adapter say that.

usb adapter is the Rosewill RNX-N180UBE
pci adapter is the Rosewill RNX-N300
the wireless router is provided by ATT: Pace PLC model 3801HGV

and its a pci adapter, not a pcie 1x like i thought. couldve swore it had a pcie adapter.

hard line to the router is getting 14Mbps.

picked up another usb adapter to try.

same result.

did some tweaking and reset some stuff in the router.

a little better, but still not what it should be.
