Vintage Kenwood KR-7600 crackles and loses 1 channel when adjusting volume

Thread Starter
Hey Y'all,

I just inherited this awesome receiver, it sounds GREAT pushing my KLH Rave-12s, but whenever I adjust the volume it loses the right speaker and crackles through both speakers. I assume this isn't too difficult of a fix, but I don't want to go in blind.

Anyone ever run into anything like this? I'd like to get this thing right. Thanks!

use some "contact cleaner spray" for the volume potentiometer. If doesn't work you will have to replace it.

Do I just spray it through the front or do I have to take the case apart?

you have to spray it inside the potentiometer, so you have to take the case apart.

This is a common problem with old audio equipment.

Most likely you will need to replace the potentiometer as was recommended above...

Radio Shack perhaps, although you will have to match the one you have, you can get the information off the back of the pot most likely....

As said above the pot needs cleaning. After you spray it, work it back and forth for a while and it will be fine.

Most likely it can be fixed with cleaning the pot- you will need to remove the top cover to get to it. You can download a service manual for a schematic of your unit here (not sure if you will need to register or not).

You might need to replace it, but I would try cleaning it first. Good luck!
