Can I replace my old laptop CPU with a newer one?

Thread Starter
I have a Toshiba C655D Satellite Laptop, and I am gonna upgrade to 8GB of RAM, an SSD, and was hoping to get a newer and better CPU. I am familiar with desktop CPUs. I was hoping to replace the stock AMD C-50 1GHz Dual Core CPU with either an FX6300 or a Phenom II X4 965. Is it possible, and how can I do it? Will it affect my overall performance and could it make my graphics card not work? (AMD Radeon 6250)

Thanks,
-Kai

Unfortunately, mobile sockets are different than desktop sockets - even worse, the socket restriction on that particular socket is going to restrict you to only C series CPUs. I had a similar model with the E-350 chip in it. Highest I could go was with the E-450 for $125. Sold it to help fund my desktop

Thanks for the info. Is my Laptop worth more if I upgrade to an SSD and 8GB RAM? Or should I just sell it to fund for my desktop?
How would it be priced with upgrades. I bought it for $398.

c60 laptops aren't worth very much, this is also a very common model.
keep the extra ram and ssd for something better.

Got mine for $350. Made sure ALL software was up to date, and virus free. I mean full updates to Java (32+64 bit), Adobe, and Windows. Spent $20 getting a little more RAM, then sold it a year later (still in new-store like condition) to a family member of my friend for $300. Was looking for a computer for web browsing, and these laptops are the perfect thing for them.

If you want to stay mobile, get an A10 from AMD. You can also build LAN boxes, they are made to move around a bit, so if you are running to friends places all the time, a nice FM2 board or any mATX Intel works. I don't have any experience there, but they are quite weaker than a mid range desktop. I'd see who else comes by to add on to that topic, or you can look around to see the LAN boxes other members have built
