My question is simple: if all else (e.g. price, reliability, availability) is equal, is a Sandisk Extreme 120GB a better performing SSD then an Intel 330 120GB?

I ask this because, for the moment in my region, the two are in fact equal in all other factors. Both are being sold for as low as $109, both seem to have little reliability issues as a result of high quality SF controllers, and both are available at my region's online PC part buy & sell site of choice.

Well, actually... that last bit isn't true. The outlet selling the Extreme 120GB for $109 is currently out of stock, and the next lowest deal would cost me a further $4 on top of time spent commuting to their store. I also happen to be highly price sensitive.

The question I'm posing is technically: does the Extreme outperform the 330? But in fact, what I really want to know is: is the performance of the Extreme worth the (admittedly small but still significant to me) price and effort premium?

P.S.: For those that want, I added a poll with a few more options within the price and capacity range of the Extreme and 330. Sound off your opinion on what the best performing 120/8GB SSD is, and leave a comment as to why you think so.

Most balanced among the bunch you posted is the Plextor M5S.

Between the Intel 330 and SanDisk Extreme 120GB though, there's no difference in performance. I believe the Intel 330 120GB might even outperform the SanDisk Extreme slightly due to NAND configuration. The SanDisk Extreme 120GB uses only 4 channels (4*32GB Toggle NAND) while the Intel 330 120GB uses all 8 channels (8*16GB Sync NAND). While Toggle NAND is faster than Sync NAND, using only half of the available channels puts a performance penalty on the SanDisk Extreme.

Unfortunately, turns out that neither of my 2 choices (and frankly none of the others I included) are available in 120/8GB capacities anymore. What are, are ADATA SP900, Corsair Neutron, Sandisk Ultra Plus, and Kingston SSDNow V300. Among those, the V300 was cheapest, seemed to get good reviews for what it was (budget SSD card) and I could have it delivered to a nearby train terminal. The rest have either similar prices to my original choices but lower performance (Extreme vs. Ultra Plus), or similar perf for much higher (again, I'm price sensitive) prices.

Therefore, I caved in; the order was placed for its arrival less than an hour from now. I really, really want an SSD. I just hope I didn't make a bad call.
