It's probably best to wait until 2014 to decide, unless someone can predict prices 6-10 months from now, as well as all of the cards that will be on the market then.

In nvidia side we have a 760gtx which is outperformed by hd 7970 and new amd cards will follow same price/performance sketch of Hd 78xx vs Hd 69xx ,hd 9870 for 350usd and would have 7970 ghz performance

If your're only dealing with $250 - $300 ... I would have to go with the 7970 Twin Frozer or the Ice Q. And that's saying that the 7970 will drop in price by then. If it doesn't I would go with the same but a 7950.
