7900GT Low Temps - Can't OC anymore

Thread Starter
I have a EVGA 7900GT on stock cooling at 530 mhz core and 1.55ghz memory. My temps are idle around 47C atm and 63C full load. I can only max out at 537 mhz Core and 1.60ghz memory. If i go anymore I will get artifacts. Temps are at 49C and 63C full load when I hit those speeds though.. Shouldn't I still have some more to OC in my card on those temps?

I think you should be able to do better, but probably not without better cooling. Worst case scenario.... better cooling, and a volt mod..

yes, voltage is your enemy here, consider the 1.4 volt mod, or go strong like I did, and do the 1.55v mod.

Hmm....well i have the Asus Extreme 7900GT 256Mb which has the lowest GPU Core and Memory at stock than most other 7900GT variants. My limit is 550Mhz Core and 1.7Ghz memory, temperature is not the only thing that stops overclocking further. It's more likely a lack of GPU voltage hence why it artifacts when pushed further.....

Low temps are always good to have, but sometimes you reach the cards limits before you hit temp problems. Some cards just dont OC as much. But im sure if you volt mod it you will get better results
