TBH I haven't really tested them for performance yet. But both the SR-1 radiators (the 560's I'm using) and
the Alphacool XT45 (the 480 in the top) are extremely good at low rpm's, which is the rpm range I intend
to run them at (somewhere between 5 V and 7 V, unless it gets really hot in summer).

So, in my use case it's much less about the fans' performance and much more about bearing noises, motor
noises and the general noise quality of the fans. In that area I am so far extremely pleased. When I turn the
140's down to 5~7 V they are really nice and quiet. There are very slight clicking noises coming from
the motor, but I can really only hear them when I hold my ear right up to the bearing (and by that I mean
about 5~10 cm/2"~4" distance). If the bearings don't degrade I will for all intents and purposes have a
nearly noiseless computer. ninja.gif

Ronsanut did a review on them, and he has several other fan reviews on his youtube channel. He's quite
thorough, I can highly recommend his fan reviews, especially for people who are into W/C:

EDIT:
Forgot to mention: The 140's actually pack quite a bit more punch than the 120 version. I have both, and
without doing actual measurements, the subjective difference between the two is very noticeable. The 140's
are louder (well, insofar as the term "loud" is applicable here) and the air flow you can feel when holding your
hands into the air path is significantly stronger than that of the 120's. This is referring to 12 V of course.

Quick Status Shots

Somebody on LTT requested some current status shots. It's not pretty and mostly disassembled, but since I've shot and
uploaded the pics I thought I might as well post them here, too. Yes, things are slightly messy ATM. biggrin.gif

I'm currently painting the fans. Should have an update on that either Sunday or Monday, if all goes to plan.

The Bitfenix Spectre Pro Copper Edition

I'll let the pictures do the talking for the most part.

I hung the frames on a thread (still had to rearrange them to cover all the angles).

aw--helios--2013-09-23--01--hanging.jpeg

The masking took about two and a half hours for all fans...

aw--helios--2013-09-23--02--masking-front.jpeg

...because I had the genius idea to paint them both front and back, even though
nobody will ever see the back side again, ever. But the perfectionist inside me
just wouldn't shut up. You can also see that I desoldered the wires. Considering
how close together the contacts are on the PCB that's going to be a ***** to solder
back on. Ah well...

aw--helios--2013-09-23--03--masking-back.jpeg

First coat of copper paint applied. The paint I'm using is Weicon Copper Spray.
The copper colour comes from actual copper particles (so, it's a metal spray, not
just something that looks like copper). The upside: It's copper! The downside:
It's conductive (most likely, I don't have a multimeter to test this, but I doubt
the epoxy matrix in which the copper particles are embedded serves as a good
enough insulator to make it non-conductive).

I found the paint on eBay, if you google "Weicon copper paint" you should be able
to find more info on it.

aw--helios--2013-09-23--04--first-coat.jpeg

Aaand we're done. To be perfectly honest, the paint job could be improved upon.
But considering I don't have a spray booth and practically all imperfections are
well hidden when they're mounted I'm still very happy with the results. I'll
definitely change my procedure though if I ever do this again. It's a learning
process. biggrin.gif

Also, to prevent the paint from tarnishing, I gave all the painted parts a clear
coat for protection.

beautiful job. if you will, post pic of the fans next to some actual copper so we can see how close the color is. I'm interested in the paint. I've spent a fair amount having screws copper plated. Would like to see how well the paint looks.

Yeah, I quite like the result. It's enough to be a good contrast to the black and make it really pop,
but not enough as to have it be too dominant. At least to me. wink.gif

Yeah, I can do that. It's a bit darker than a sheet of copper or copper plating. I'm assuming
this is due to the fact that many small copper particles don't reflect light as well as one
contiguous surface. How pronounced the effect is depends heavily on the lighting. If you
have something shining directly onto the two objects, the difference is pretty stark, under
"normal" lighting much less so.

I'd say it's a matter of colour coordination: If you have some actual copper right next to it
it looks pretty weird, but if you surround it with something else (black works well, but maybe
other shades and colours would work, too) your eye (well, mine anyway tongue.gif ) will adjust and
it looks much more natural.

I'll try to take a few pics, see how much I can bring this out so you can get an impression of
the worst case scenario. I'm currently waiting on my battery to recharge.

Thank you! Inspiring others (or, as my mum used to say: putting stupid ideas into other people's
heads and getting them into trouble devil.gif ) is an excellent form of gratification. smile.gif
