Deleted full Drive in Windows 7 Installation. Recovery???

Thread Starter
Lost my Vertex 2 this past weekend and wanted to use a 2tb Drive that I have to install windows on to until possible New drive comes back from RMA...

What I had and Did...

1. WD 2tb HDD with 500gb of Movies on it.
2. Deleted whole drive *without thinking) in custom install options of W7 64bit
3. Created and Formated only 35gb Partition and installed W7 64bit.
4. Never Created a partition on OR Formated the other 1828gb of that Drive that had 500gb movies on it.

My question is: Is there a way to restore the 500gb (minus the 35gb used for partitio0n with OS on it) worth of movies?

Being that when you delete a drive it deosn't remove the data, just kills the file paths. I understand that I would lose the first 35gb of movies which would only be around 7-9 movies, so no big deal.

I would hate to have to copy all of those SD movies movies back onto the HDD after getting my New RMA SSD Back. Especially at 15/ DVD... YIKES!!!

Any Brain storming would be great! Thanks.

Andrew C.

Have you tried to use Recuva? Never used it so I can't say for sure if it can recover entire directories.

When you delete the whole drive you actually just kissed those video goodbye. If you went with the custom install of Windows 7 and just click on Next several times and never did any reformat or deletion of partitions, Windows will be installed and the movies would still be there.

If you didn't write any data on the newly formatted partition (i.e. immediately stopped and didn't install Windows), data recovery would be quite possible (it would involve restoring the original partition arrangement and then unformatting the partition).  As it is now, I have great confidence that the MFT for the old partition is completely overwritten, so there's nothing to unformat.  The only chance I see now is after you stop using the HDD as your boot device, to expand the 35 GB partition out to the end of the drive (so that you no longer have 1828 GB unallocated) and try various file recovering software that mention signature scanning.  However, if your videos were fragmented, the chance of successfully recovering anything is about zero.
