Best way to transfer files from RDP

Thread Starter
Hey I have a subscription to a RDP server running windows server 2012, I want to transfer files to my usb hard drive from the RDP without having to leave my computer on, am I right in saying the only way I could do this is by getting a wireless hard drive, using my tablet to connect to the ftp server on the RDP and then use the ftp program on my tablet (ipad 3rd gen) to transfer the files to the wireless hard drive?
Or just purchase a cheap laptop?
Has anyone else got any other ideas?
Also forgot to mention I have a raspberry pi could I use that in any way?
Thanks!

You are going to need to make your USB drive accessible via the internet by means of connecting it to a PC, laptop or other device which you can leave on. Once you have done that, connect to it from the server and initiate the transfer. Thats about it. A lot of routers nowadays include a USB port for file storage that can be made externally accessible, usually via FTP.

Or you could just leave your PC on and do the copy... By the time you find a way to copy files without leaving your PC on, you probably could have copied everything already?

The easiest and most cost effective solution would be to leave the PC on.
Are there any particular factors preventing you from doing so?
