I'd get the P5B/E6400 if you arent planning on running two video cards.. P5B-Dlx is a great board.
P5B-deluxe w/ 0711 BIOS = E6400 at 3.52 24/7

Note: If you decide on the P5B, don't get the vanilla, get the Deluxe.

Wow guys this thread got bigger then i expected. Thanks for all you comments. After reading everything i must say that saving the 100$ on the E6600 does sound good but i know in a couple months ill be kicking my own ass for not getting it. I made a mistake with my first build 3 years ago and got socket 478 to save a little. I do think ill be doing that this time. As far as the board, i think i will go with the P5b deluxe. Thanks

That is not true. There are marked improvements in real performance in real world applications from the higher cache. Especially in video editing and music compiling.

That depends on a persons needs. I originally bought a P5W but sold it as it could not support my RAID array plans. In addition, the 965 chipset has several benefits over the older 975.

2-3 % improvements does not justify extra $100

Extra 2mb cache is future proofing?

Read this http://www.overclock.net/news-overcl...e-4mb-2mb.html

Here's another chart... Does L2 cache size make much of a difference?
