Can I upgrade asus p755d to a deluxe edition with same OS

I am considering upgrading my p755d to a newer model of the same board. I am looking to crossfire a set of 7950 vapor x cards and would also like to take advantage of Sata 6 and usb 3.0.

My question would be since I already own a p755d motherboard if I wanted to upgrade to lets say the Asus p755d deluxe edition that has crossfire capability and sata 6 connections built in, would I need to reinstall a fresh version of windows 7 or can I just swap the board essentially?

Anyone have an answer? I believe whenever you get a new motherboard your suppose to put a fresh version of windows on regardless but is it possible?

As long as it is the same chipset you should be ok. You will need to install the new drivers. I've done it on a P5Q Delux when i up graded to it and did it 3 times with my M5G, 3 bad boards in a row. I would recommend a fresh install though less chances of problems.

Nice!!! Thanks! I was actually reading the receipt for the replacement motherboard I had bought for my original p755d motherboard that died a year ago which only had one 16x PCIE lane and one 8x lane which prevented me from cross firing at the time.

Turns out that the motherboard I had actually ended up purchasing from ebay as a replacement board turned out to be an Asus P7P55D Xtreme LGA1156 Intel P55 which turns out has 2 16x lanes. I didn't even notice it until today. I thought I bought the same board I am stoked that I didn't.

Hopefully my crossfire concerns have been resolved so I don't have to fork out anymore $ until I do a major upgrade.

My only question is does this board support crossfire well ? I am reading mixed things online saying yes and no for this chipset. Can my cards be crossfired and run great with this board?
They are saying the reason it wouldn't be able to is because it runs in a 16x4 instead of x8x8. How can I confirm this even though they board says 16x on both.

If this works I am going to buy the 2nd 7950.

So is it possible to crossfire the 2 16x slots on my p755d Extreme to either get 8x and 8x instead of 16x4 or do I need to upgrade the entire motherboard?
