Client Problem

Hello,

I have a client at an office and they working on a programm. The folder that programm "lives" in it's on the client';s computer and they share the folder. Other clients through the share open the programm without installation and they do their work.

Problem is he asked me if we could do some sort of work so he can easily cut off the clients don;t want to see the share.

The share is on Windows xp(simple sharing and nbo way he is gonna learn how to give rights to the people through windows etc).

I was thinking seting up on an old comuter FreeNas and put the programm there (along with some other files) , and from what i know you can easily cut off the ips or the hosts through web configuration.

Any other solution? (Think thhat the guy only thing he knows is to browse the internet and work on that programm).

Another solution i thought was setting up a firewall or edit the firewall of windows with simple batch files to block or unblock certain ip that want to access the computer for file shares(tried it on my computers through windows firewall but can't get that to work... greek options on Windows does;nt help me either in batch script).

If its strictly allow or deny access you are after then why not use the standard password protected sharing feature of windows?

Make an account on the PC which has the share, make sure it has permissions over the share at both NTFS and share level then give that username and password to everyone that needs access. Remove the everyone group from the permissions as well.

This isn't really configuring a permission set for different users so should be simple and much faster than building up a new storage box.

Freenas does have its benefits though and may better suit the client in the long run.

Ye i know the process but it's like hard for the client(i might end doing the whole changing on account thing over TS anyways). Might ask him about FreeNas since i will benefit him in the long run smile.gif
