Stumped.. Volume Turned Up To Max On Speakers And Cable Box, But Still Not Loud Enough. - Page 2

May I ask why you didn't just purchase a pc tuner card and use Windows Media Center for all of your tv needs? I'm not trying to troll, just trying to simplify your setup a bit. If you game on one of those monitors while watching tv on the one you are using the HDMI switch on then disregard my question.

But that does make sense what you said, and yes ~10x is perfect, any more would be overkill, I agree! Thanks man smile.gif

my fault i meant speakers.

hey, well i was thinking about purchasing a pc tuner card, but even if I got one, I would still have to pay for the cable tv service. so I want to be able to use the 2 other monitors to browse the web, or play games, or do HW, while the 3rd is being used so my gf can watch tv. So your input was a good one, and if it could help me out even with the setup i just layed out, then please continue. But I think I may have the set up just the way I would like it. Just need the volume issue solved, which I am waiting for the pre amp. thanks

The sound problem would be solved because your pc would be doing all the processing, so as long as sound works properly with everything else it will work just fine with a tuner card. You can have tv playing on one of the screens while doing things on the other two without a problem. Your best bet would be to put Windows Media Center in a window on one of the screens and proceed to work on the other two. Maximizing WMC in one of the screens locks your mouse in there, although if I remember right alt-tab will let your mouse roam to the others. Give the Windows Media Center program a try just to see if you like the interface. I use it on all of my pc's for watching tv on (no cable boxes at all in my house) and I love it. I've walked a few people through on setups. It's not complicated at all.

off topic: this little program stops WMC from taking exclusivity of your cursor/mouse, very useful for TV watching/ multitasking. no more screen flashing black when switching monitors, ect..

hey guys, sorry i haven't responded sooner, ive been crazy busy.. my girlfriends' mom and sister were in from California for 3 weeks frown.gif

So I bought the pre-amp, and awesome.. the TV goes loud!!! smile.gif Problem solved.

Now of course, when one problem is solved, another is created..

I'm totally contempt with the way it is now, but my girl and her sis were nitpicking..

The new issue is that the bass is so damn loud.. Since I have a pair of Antec Lansing Octane 8 2.1 computer speakers, which seem to be very bass heavy, what can I do to fix this?

On the right speaker, there is a volume knob, a treble knob, and a bass knob, This issue still is there when bass is all the way down. Its just hard to hear people, More so for the TV and less so for watching computer movies. Oh yea, and I did NOT do the WMC set up, I am still using one of my monitors as a separate tv.

Let me know what you guys think! Thanks smile.gif)

again... you need to mess with cable box's audio settings. try all the options... narrow/wide range, variable/fixed vol, compression, etc... until it sounds better

im trying, but i cant see a 'compressed' setting.

Under the audio setting, scientific atlanta explorer 4250hd gives me the following options:

- Output Type - Dolby Digital On / Off
- Range - Wide / Normal / Narrow
- Volume Control - Fixed / Variable

Those are the only settings i can seem to locate through the menu's

I tried switching the ranges, by switching to narrow the quality was garbage, and Normal sounds crisp, but not much better then wide.

The other thing I changed, was Having fixed instead of variable.

When I have Variable selected, I can raise the volume on the box itself, AND raise it even more on my speaker dial. I would perfer this so I can raise the volume from controller without getting up, but I know you can't always have your cake and eat it too.

Now I put it to Fixed, and it seems slightly more doable, but no crazy change really, and it doesn't allow me to use remote to raise or lower volume.

Does anyone else have Optimum? In particular the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HD Cable Box? I wish I could find a menu to adjust the bass and treble.. but Like I said above, those 3 options are the only listings in the audio menu.

Its hard to understand dialog when there is bass on every word, its worse when there is a guy talking, AND even less bearable when people are talking with background music.

Let me know guys and girls. Thanks for all the help so far!
