You cherry picked a game that is single threaded to prove your point

Actually i play sc2 something like 20 or 30 hours a week, it has something around a million active players and is the best RTS on the market, the only one in the esports scene

what benchmark is that.. runs 10 fps with a titan? and at such a low resolution

i have a feeling they are not indicative of true real life performance.

It's a really high supply fight with more than 2 players, carriers marines zerglings etc IIRC. The ratio's between cpu's are accurate, increase numbers by 3-4x and you have something you'll hit every day. GPU is basically not a factor for sc2 minimums

Even other games not designed for x87 floating point will have better advantage on SSE. Damn stack overflow crashes because of x87.

Well games like Starcraft exist.... More so then games like Crysis 3 and Battlefield.... And how is it coded for Intel? rolleyes.gif

Or are you saying because it only uses a few cores and is more reliant on cores with a high IPC that it's Intel biased? rolleyes.gif

Certain tasks and calculations simply do not work well across multiple cores, that's why they will always be games that are single/dual threaded.

You know as well as I do that even if they are single threaded tasks as opposed to multithreaded it doesn't mean that an application couldn't have the many other threads associated with the application spread out to even the work load. It's kinda foolish to not either multithread or balance the load.

My FX 8150 and 6990 have never once hit fps near 10 at 1080p max settings, so these benchmarks are fishy.

Off topic: I don't pay any attention to any benchmarks due to the fact that my chip does 4x better than any chart I see. Just about everyone of them says at 1080p (with no AA) I should be getting 20FPs or some BS number. Yet even with Skyrim and max AA, I was staying at 60FPS except when standing somewhere extremely high looking out over the map. I don't know how they do the benchmarks, but they aren't reliable.

On topic: It's not SR, and I have no clue why it would be priced this high. Although the cores are a revision of Vishera (AMD claimed Vishera 2.0 cores) I don't see any reason for anything over $600. assuming that these chips are made with higher grade whatever and can carry higher volts with better temps, I guess getting 8 upgraded Vishera cores to 5.5GHz would have a lot of power... Well, both power draw and power performance.
EDIT: Same website, different article

I don't get the max details/crappy resolution part. There is this questionable theory that says you have to evaluate cpus in games by turning everything to low and floor the resolution (and it is faulty because it turns a gaming benchmark into a synthetic one--nobody uses an i7/8350 and a titan to play like that and the results aren't indicative/don't show the true cpu ranking of what happens at full HD/higher settings) but these guys have done neither. Max settings/low res. What gives?

You proved our point with your last paragraph for minimum settings the game is cpu bound not employing the graphics card, an ideal cherry pick to put up against an AMD 8 core cpu. Put the top 20 up and overall the contest will be a lot closer. You know it, I know it, and everyone else here knows it. Be scientific about your contention with a sampling that represents the state of the current gaming scene. If you can't be scientific then you shouldn't post. Mao had a famous saying back in the sixties: "no investigation, no right to speak." Of course you can speak without investigation, but you will be the one with the egg on your face.

I usually ignore things like that, but I couldn't stop reading.... Of course an 8 core is going to have more power draw than a dual core... And $20 isn't that much. I don't know how much more power my CPU pulls than a direct comparison of the equivalent Intel... but if $20 is what I'm looking at, who cares? Anyway... yea - he's beyond help.
