Aftermarket cooler for Short PCB Reference GTX670?

Thread Starter
I am really wanting some aftermarket cooling for my short pcb gtx670 about now, length of the cooler is not a concern as my case will fit it, but I need to it retain the dual slot design(it could probably overhang a couple mm), something like what arctic cooling offers is going to make the card too wide (3 slot) and therefore it will not fit in my case.

What I don't want:
Don't tell me to custom watercool, and don't tell me to do the dwood mod, it is not going to work in my case.

The case is a node 304 so it is only dual slot for the gpu.

Are there any aftermarket coolers that will fit the bill for me?

Thanks :/

Hi, you can try the Scythe musashi or the coolink gfxchilla.

Hey,
I have a pair of Coolink GFXChilla coolers that were mounted on some BFG 8800gt cards I bought back in 2007.

The other night I swapped one onto my Reference pcb GTX 670 and the end result wasn't what I was hoping for.

It idles around 28-30c which is pretty nice but slowly creeps up to 80c+ while running stuff like kombuster and valley.

The way it slowly creeps up instead of shooting right to high temps makes me think that it is seated on the die pretty solidly and it is just an inability to remove heat fast enough.
I also used some of the small heatsinks that come with the Coolink kit to put on the reference 670 VRMs, I don't know if they are getting the airflow they deserve.
I just have a 120mm Antec Tricool screwed and ziptied to the cooler, oriented more towards the vrm/pcie bracket side of the card but I can't really see the two stock 80mm fans doing much much better.

So I'm probably still going to find myself another cheap AIO like the Corsair H55 as I was planning and go through with a mod to fit it to my card.
I just wanted to try this since I had the coolers here and the spacing of 58.2mm fit the 58.4mm 670 mounting holes.

Here are a couple pictures I took while doing this, sadly a few of them turned out a lot blurrier than I was expecting, I think my camera was still set to manual mode. (Powershot G5)

8800GT cards in SLI while I was stripping the GTX 670 down.
It does show the spacing available with the cooler quite well, can still fit my sound card in the bottom slot.

A couple showing the cooler with heatsinks added and the reflection from off of the 670 core.

I take that back and I'd like to say this coolink GFXChilla isn't don't that bad of a job for a 7 year old cooler I only paid $20 a piece for.

I was playing CS:GO earlier for about 4-5 hours and it was staying in the low to mid 40C mark.
This was with my case and radiator fans all set to 800-900rpm with my Bitfenix Recon fan controller.

Right now it's hanging around 71c, periodically hitting 72c running MSI Kombuster with all my fans at their highest RPM.

I think I'll fiddle around with it a bit more and see if I can get it sub 70c to keep my max boost clocks all the time.

At least one of the heatpipes isn't covered by the fan I have on the cooler so I think I'll try the stock fans and another pair of thicker 80mm fans which should have better static pressure.
I also have two 60mm Deltas that might make an appearance!

I am still planning on adding something like the Corsair H55 but this will be fun to mess around with in the meantime.

I ended up taking that coolink cooler off a few days later and going back to the stock cooler as it was just getting too hot while gaming for extended periods of time, 90C+ in Diablo 3.

Since then I've upgraded to another GTX670 card in SLI so the reference blowers work quite well in that set up.
( I found a pair of GTX680s for $200 a piece the night after I installed the 2nd 670 so I'm running those now rolleyes.gif )

I put the coolink back on the BFG 8800gt OC2 512mb and it will stay around as a pair of matched cards for fooling around with in SLI

Looking for a SLI capable motherboard to be a replacement for my Q6600/P45 UD3R in the secondary system I have in here. thumb.gif
