MOBO Dead? Please help, really urgent, please. - Page 2

I used to have a 680i, and I have to wonder if their is a debug led on your board. When you boot up is there a number displayed on it? If so what is it? Secondly, do you have another power supply you could try? Make sure the PSU cable is not loose in the back either. Is the PSU clogged with dust. Can the fan spin?

I have had a similar issue on one of our servers.
It's a failed BIOS checksum. wink.gif Which means your BIOS got corrupted somehow.

Get a floppy drive or a USB stick connected to it (if it can read it though), with a proper BIOS image downloaded and copied on it. Rename the image to match exactly (strip down any underscores with versions, revisions, etc from the name)
I found this BIOS posted on a forum here: http://www.computerbase.de/forum/showthread.php?t=469197 but I can't understand anything.
From what I found out after a quick research, the latest revision is 08. Support is officially cut for this motherboard - nothing on the site.

You might want to look at it.

If it just shuts off, then it can be your PSU. Also make sure the heatsink cpu is in place correctly.

the psu is clean, fan spins freely and all connections are good and solid.

could it still be a bios issue that just randomly turns the pc off?

well it looks ok, so yes could be a bios issue, could still be the power supply , they do get less efficient when they age although I can't see your HX750 being that old

maybe a good clean may help, if any of the dirt is conductive material it could cause the occasional short.

I agree with fragamemnon, it looks like the BIOS ROM is forgetting its firmware program.  Some BIOSes look for a firmware file to load from the floppy when their firmware gets corrupted.  Flashing the BIOS (find the right version!) or replacing the motherboard should solve the problem. thumb.gif

in all honesty I suspect there are a few issues at work here. My hunch is mobo, but yes psu could also have a short. I will give a thorough clean, and then continue testing for the rest of the day. I will have a go at flashing the bios, and then move onto other bits of hardware.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to help me out.
