CPU fan broke need advice

Hi all,

So recently, in the span of a month, I noticed my fps was dropping the longer I played the game. I shrugged this off at first and reformatted my computer cause I needed to anyways but after I reformatted, the same problem still exists. So I downloaded CPUID to check my temps and I noticed my cpu temps were 50-60 degrees celsius idle and over 100degrees+ under stress (like when playing a league game), I opened my case up and the cpu fan wasn't working.

Now I'm not sure if its the CPU fan that stopped working or the cpufan jack on the motherboard thats broken. I'm assuming its the cpu fan though. I read somewhere that my cpu temps should be around 70degrees under stress, will being exposed to 100+ degree temps for a span of a month, possibly longer, ruin the cpu? Since my cpu is so old anyways I want to just replace it with a cheap one for now, and upgrade my whole rig sometime next year. Will I need to replace my mobo too, to be able to support one of these cpus I want to buy.

Just plug the CPU fan into another header and see if it works there. Then you'll know if it's the fan or the header.

To run any AMD cpu, you will need a AMD-compatible motherboard

It should be OK for a while once you sort out cooling. The thermal throttling on the chip (exhibited by your huge game slowdowns) enacted in order to prevent extensive thermal damage.

Ok, Thanks for the replies. I have a question,

http://ncix.com/products/?sku=64385&vpn=RR-212E-20PK-R2&manufacture=COOLERMASTER&promoid=1316

will this fit onto my cpu then?
