Noise level with this build?

I'm going purchase this soon and move into a dorm in a month or so. I'd rather not bug my roommate with noise and whatnot. So, how noisy will this be while OCing and playing new games? Any tips on how to reduce noise?

Thanks.

Seems decent in noise; obviously it's going to be loud when you play graphically intensive games.

On a side note, why are you spending so much on the CPU/MB when you can build an i5-3570K/i5-4670K system for the same price? You'd get much better performance in many games (primarily RTSs and MMOs) and it would be much better for CFX if you ever decide to do that.

Looks like a nice build.

The two things that will make the most noise is the graphics card cooler and the dvd drive. I have both of these (The same cooler on my GTX 660) and the same dvd drive. The dvd drive is loud and the twin frozr cooler can make quite alot of noise when running at high speed but all this should be kept quiet by your case.

I probably won't be using the DVD drive much--Steam Powered.
Media editing really isn't my thing and I've heard the performance difference between AMD and Intel in most games isn't huge.
Good to know about the noise; I expected as much after seeing a video on the Define R4.

The corsair 550d is a very good and quiet case and is around the same cost as the R4. Might be worth a look unless you like the style of the R4.

I agree with the first suggestion though. If you just play games then i would advise going with intel with that budget. A GTX 760 might be a better option aswell.

Depends what games; like I said in most RTSs and MMOs there will be a significant difference.

Why do you want AMD when you can get a better performing Intel for the same price?

I did take a look at the 550D, and the only major difference seems to be a slight increase in height by about 30mm. Hence, I'll probably stick with the R4.
After asking around for awhile, people convinced me that the AMD/Radeon build would do fine and be cheaper than an Intel/Nvidia build. Now, I'm not sure. worriedsmiley.gif

An alternative intel build

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1cJoP

Im in no way biased against amd but if all you do is play games then an intel build with your budget would be the best option. The GTX 760 can be heavily overclocked and will be faster then a 7950. You could always go with a 3570k and make the build even cheaper.

Im Sorry to make complications to your decision but thats just my advice thumb.gif

In some games there won't be any difference, in others there will be a large difference. Why not go Intel if you're going to spend that much anyways?

i5-3570K ($220) + ASUS P8Z77-V LK ($125) = $345 which will be about the same cost as the AMD CPU/MB you picked.
