Hardware compatibility... Help please!

I just ordered a new CPU and Mobo from newegg.

I ordered this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128521 and this CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113286

My buddy just said he would GIVE me this mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128441

Is the second mobo compatible with the FX-6300? It says its AM3+ but has no mention of the FX series. If i wanted to save the $80, could i?

And if i could, would it be worth it? What's the biggest advantage of the mobo i bought, over what he had if there is any?

Need suggestions soon so i can tell newegg what's going on tomorrow wink.gif

Thanks!

Well, the motherboard your friend offered you does not support AM3+ CPUs unless it is a revision 3.1. If your friends motherboard says anything but rev 3.1, then you wouldnt be able to use it. The rev 3.1 has a black CPU socket, and says Rev 3.1 in the bottom left corner if you look at it with the socket at the top.

As for the advantages, the GA-890FXA-UD5 has a better power delivery system, and better cooling. It most likely overclocks much better than the GA-970A-UD3.

Rev 3.0 (Not Compatible)
Look at the top left for the "Rev 3.0"

Rev 3.1 (Compatible)
Look at the top left for the "Rev 3.1"

Wrong, most 890fx chipset boards are compatible with FX with a bios update. It's just not "officially" supported. You can easily tell which one you have by the black cpu socket.
