Thanks for any replies.
Coming from someone with 6850s right now, they might barely pull ahead of a 7870 in some games. But the headaches of crossfire simply aren't worth whatever price difference is there, and 1gb VRAM starts to feel a little small at 1440p once you start modding.
Why do you ask? If you already have a 6850, throwing in a 2nd is a very cost effective upgrade. If you don't have a 6850 already, a 7870 is better.
EDIT: My OC'd 6850s work just fine for all my games at 1440p atm. I don't regularly play Crysis 3 or BF3, though both ran fine with some tweaked settings.
Also, radeonpro is great for fixing micro-stutter. The main problem I have with crossfire is driver support for certain games, especially on launch day.Edited by brucethemoose - 7/2/13 at 9:42pm
